Perhaps the best kept secret for recovery and rehabilitation is Affinity Skilled Living & Rehabilitation Center located in Oakdale, New York.

In this column over the next few months we will be featuring innovative services provided at Affinity. We also will be updating you on the new programs Affinity will be offering, the expansion of the rehabilitation department, the luxury renovations being completed to enhance the comfort of long-term and short-term rehabilitation residents, and introducing new members of Affinity’s medical staff.

This month’s focus is on Affinity’s Rehabilitation team. Unlike many other rehabilitation facilities where the members of a Rehab Department are contracted, Affinity’s Rehab Team is employed directly by the facility. This gives Affinity the ability to carefully select each Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist and rehab support team member for their skills and experience. Affinity’s Rehab Team is comprised of over 35 members who work together to create individualized programs that meet the unique needs of each resident.

Therapy at Affinity is provided 7 days a week on a one to one ratio for each resident in the rehab program. The Rehab Team treats conditions including cardiac, neurological, vestibular (vertigo, dizziness, visual disturbance, and/or imbalance), orthopedic, prosthetics and more. In addition, Affinity features an extensive respiratory care department that includes an on-site ventilator unit with respiratory staff on-site 24 hours/day.

Affinity’s goal is to get their short-term residents home quickly and to provide services that keep their long-term residents as independent as possible.
